> Countdown to school year begins. Teachers and students alike are getting ready to return to then high school on the hill. School starts August 26- now one week away.

> Phares selected as new superintendent. In June, the Marion County Board of Education announced that Dr. James Phares would replace outgoing superintendent Tom Long.

> About 1/4 of PROMISE recipients fail to keep scholarship. About 27 percent of PROMISE recipients attending West Virginia colleges last year failed to make the grades required to keep the merit-based scholarship. (AP)

> Prom a sucess: Juniors happy. Saturday night was East Fairmont's biggest formal dance of the year and the Juniors pulled it off. "We had a real good turnout- a great turnout," Junior class advisor Mr. Anslene told BTV News. (April 28, 2003)
