| By Andrew Springer BTV News Staff Member FAIRMONT- In June, the Marion County Board of Education announced that Dr. James Phares would replace outgoing superintendent Tom Long. Phares, before coming to Marion County, served as the Superintendent for Pocahontas County. Phares will start out making a reported $85,000 a year. "All along as the Chairman of this Committee, my goal was not to hire an Interim Superintendent that July first we will have a brand-new Superintendent in the Marion County School System," told board member Charlie Reese, who was head of the selection committee, to WAJR News. He will replace Tom Long who officially left on July 1st to become the superintend of Pleaseants county. Long became superintendent in 1998 also coming from Pocahontas County.
